2026 Road Tour Minutes

Town of Bayview Road Tour Minutes

Tuesday, May 12th, 2026

Meeting called to order at 7:30 a.m. by Don Jenicek, Town Chairman. Present were Bill Bodin, Mike Garnich & Mike Yonan.

Notes taken on the discussions while on tour include:

We checked out the Town’s F-350 truck in the garage. This 2008 model is showing considerable amount of body rust and Mike mentioned that it is in need of a new injector. Don was going to discuss options at Ashland Ford when he goes there this week and Mike Garnich suggested we consider joining in on the state pricing bids with Ford to learn more about options and potential replacement costs when working on 2027 budgets.

Paperwork from Northwoods Paving was circulated to review initial responses to putting blacktop on Burlager Road. The section in question has many frost heaves and was last covered in 1998. This proposal was for 3” compact after pulverizing from Highway 13 up to Maunu Road. Budget has road improvement money carried over from 2025, and road rebuild money set aside in 2026 for roughly $135,000 to be invested in 2026.

Leino Johnson road looked good. There is a directional arrow sign on the corner of Burlager/Washington that needs to be repaired. Burlager ditch work on the south side from Hyde’s residence to the culvert was noted. Bodin Roadis good. The ditch work project done last fall was inspected. Gravel will need to be reclaimed from the base of Frostman Road that is near the ditch from the snow plow. Ditch work will need to be completed on the south side of Frostman Road need the hill where water is pooling. Careful when working in the area due to the inability of the fiber optic efforts to bury their line due to existing brownstone.

Houghton Falls Road is good. There is a sign that needs to be fixed on the road. Parking area for the Preserve was observed and discussions about replacing garbage cans and a porta-potty put in the area. Drove down the private drive towards Bouchard’s driveway. There is a culvert that needs to be repaired bat Houghton Falls Road. Crack Sealing should be scheduled this summer for Houghton Falls Road in an effort to maintain the blacktop. Gary Road will need gravel this summer. Plan for a 2” overlay and tree removal from the last storm.

Maki Road west of the Town Hall was in good condition. Big Rock Road needs the dip to be filled up -suggested digging it out, adding more rock and having it covered when there is blacktop work being done in the township. More repair work is need on the NW side of the bridge where the roadway continues to slough off – cold patch. South Niemesto Road has numerous trees in the ditch. Fix soft spot by the snow plow turn around near 29445 fire number. Grade and cut trees again. Fix standing water near 30250 and place a new culvert in this area to improve drainage. Mattson Road is good. North Niemesto Road is good. Friendly Valley Road will need to be graded, have trees removed and gravel placed west of the box culvert. Areas will also need black top cold patch.

Top 5 Priorities were:

  1. Ditch Burlager road up to Mauna Road
  2. Fix the two areas of concern on Big Rock Road.
  3. Gravel Gary Road
  4. Grade Friendly Valley Road
  5. Fix signs that need to be repaired

Travelled back to Town Garage. Bill motioned for meeting to be adjourned at 9:45 a.m. Don seconded that and the motion carried.
