Call to order by Chairman Charly Ray at 6:02 p.m.
Roll Call: Supervisor Larry Nelson, present; Supervisor Don Jenicek, absent; Chairman Charly Ray, present; Treasurer Kelly Warren, absent and Clerk Wanda Hyde, present. Others present: David Hyde, Mike Garnich, Cary Bouchard, John Carlson, Bob & Nicola Cuty, Paul Johnson and Susan Kelly.
Minutes of August 9th and 29th. Motion was made by Larry Nelson seconded by Charly Ray to approve minutes of August 9th and 29th as presented. Motion carried.
Treasurer Report was given by Wanda Hyde. Checking $33,851.72, Equipment Fund $7,959.83, Room Tax $6,273.31 and Tax levy $12,904.36.
Citizen’s Concerns and Comments –
Cary Bouchard express concern regarding plugged culvert at HFNP. Charly Ray stated that there was a group cleanup day scheduled for September 24th, to take care trail issues at HFNP.
Annual Picnic – There was a great turnout.
Review minutes of Parks Committee minutes was done by Charly Ray.
John Carlson stated that the town could start issuing citations for violations at HFNP.
Pay Master building was reported on by Paul Johnson.
Class A Permit by David Palet to make dwelling as a year round short term vacation rental at 28255 Friendly Valley Road. Motion was made by Larry Nelson seconded by Charly Ray to approve permit and sign. Motion carried.
Houghton Falls Nature Preserve Trail Grant from Wisconsin Coastal Management for $20,000 has been approved. Project on hold until other funding has been approved.
Road Report by Mike Yonan – grading, spreading gravel. Friendly Valley Road is finished blacktop but needs shoulder gravel. Butch Warren has been mowing.
5 Year Road Plan – Looking to put Maki Road paving in 2017 budget if possible.
Houghton Falls Road blacktopping project should be completed next month.
WTA turnout for Transportation explained by Charly Ray. Meeting will be September 29th at Great Lakes Visitor Center.
Propane bids were reviewed.
Darren Zifko .99 per gallon (suggested we only prepay 2,000 gallons, because price always goes down in the spring.
Midland Services $1.04 for 3000 gallon contract.
Motion was made by Larry Nelson seconded by Charly Ray to purchase propane from Darren Zifko at .99 per gallon. Motion carried.
Pad for salt sand was discussed. Mike Yonan received a price from Northwoods Paving in the amount of $5,500.00, which would be done while they were in the area. Motion was made by Larry Nelson seconded by Charly Ray to approve pad for salt sand. Motion carried.
Part time road crew – Butch Warren has been hired at 30 hours per week for the rest of the year.
Payment of the bills in amount of $43,677.74. Motion was made by Larry Nelson seconded by Charly Ray to approve and pay as presented. Motion carried.
Mitigation Funds available from DNR for projects to be made more resilient in the future. Funding available to those towns that did not have flooding this spring. Charly Ray will look into paper work.
Pat McCuin of Pine Ridge Surveying has completed the surveying at HFNP.
Verizon Contract will be reviewed at the Bayfield County Board Room on September 20th at 6 P.M. Looking for support.
Motion to go into closed session per WI State Statutes 19.85 (1) (b) and (c) for personnel matters, then return to open session to take any action that may be necessary on the closed session item.
Roll call vote. Larry Nelson yes, Charly Ray, yes.
Motion to resume regular session was made by Larry Nelson seconded by Charly Ray. Roll call vote. Larry Nelson yes, Charly Ray yes.
Motion was made by Larry Nelson seconded by Charly Ray to pay Jim Maki the difference between his regular pay and Wendell Michel’s pay while Jim filled in until permanent employer was hired. Motion carried.
Next meeting set for October 11th, 2016 at 6:00 p.m.
